USPS Goes Green
By Jennifer McGraw
IDAHO FALLS- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. That's what the United States Postal Service intends to do.
"We're just learning how to not use fuel surcharges to our customers, but doing more efficient things internally to try to curb the cost of that," said Idaho Falls Post Master, Liz Snow. The post office has already made efforts to go green. "We do have Eco friendly products such as we're using different inks and flat rate boxes that help the environment as far as compost after wards," said Snow. The USPS is also starting to use bio efficient fuel in mail carriers. This will reduce fuel emissions. Another program they launched last month is called "Mail Back." "Sacks that you as a customer can send back your ink cartridges for recycling," added Snow. You can go into any post office with your small electronics, ink cartridges and toners and they will ship and recycle them for you free of charge. "I just think it's the responsible thing to do. I think we need to be aware. It's imperative that we recycle," said Catherine Smith, frequent recycler. But here's something they lack: We all get junk mail, but where do we put it? Most of us put it in the receptacle, but what if there was a place we could recycle it? "If there was a recycle bin, I'd probably recycle it," said Robert Cox while going through his mail. Snow concluded, "Maybe it will be the wave of the future in which case we will definitely have recycle bins for them to do that." For More Information: http://www.usps.com/green/recycle.htm |
