Boating Less?

Go to any gas station and you can watch your money float away.
Prices just continue to soar.

Michael Murray: "it's getting ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous the fuel prices and it's really cutting into everything that we do."

Causing some boaters to rethink the frequency of their trips.

Michael Murray: "Last year I got out every single weekend. Never failed to take the kids out. But now it's every other weekend or every third weekend even."
Some are traveling less than last year.

Jim Close: "I'm gonna stay pretty close to home this summer."

For many traveling elsewhere just doesn't make economic sense.
It simply costs to much to tow their boats.

Brad Albey: "A typical day I imagine we're between 75 and 100 bucks between the boat and truck. Where here we're probably about 30 or 40."

And one couple has one way to beat the cost of fuel.
They bought a paddle boat and a kayak.

Alan Merker: "My wife and I thought we'd have fun and not worry about the price of gas. And we can still get out on every summer."

Lori Merker: "We have a boat and I'm mad about the price of gas and I won't take the boat out."
