Does it Really Work? - Grater Plater

By Tommy Noel

If you've ever tried to grate food items like garlic or cheese, you run the risk of cutting the tips of your fingers..

Today, I have a product that may save your appendages. Let's check out the Grater Plater.

Infomercial: "What would you get if you combined a cheese grater with a plate? You get a plate that grates!"

Tom Hersh of Dixie's Diner will try out the Grater Plater. He's an expert with Does it Really Work? products as Tom was our tester for the Titan Peeler back in April.

"After the Titan incident, it's taken me a long time to recover," says Tom Hersh.

You see, I beat Tom peeling potatoes in a race. And I was just using a regular peeler.

"I thought you were phenomenal with the potato," says Tom back in April.

So Tom will attempt to even it all up. We'll get to the competition in a second, but first let's see how the Grater Plater does with garlic.

"That was pretty slick to get a nice soft chopped garlic. Not bad," says Tom.

By the way, the product comes with a garlic peeler for free.

Next up, ginger. We're on a good streak as our ginger provided positive results.

"I'm gonna say that was kinda slicker than snot. That was pretty good," says Tom.

But will the Grater Plater zest a lemon? I think we found our first snag.

"Not happy with the zesting properties," says Tom.

And we were doing so well with our first two tries. Next, we brought two kinds of cheese. First up, mild cheddar cheese. Which pretty much turned into mush. Now we'll try a harder cheese.

The Grater Plater made the Romano very fine, almost like that Kraft Parmesan Cheese shaker.

Now it's time for the competition. This time, I'll be using the Does it Work product and Tom will use a regular grater. And after only a few seconds, anyone could predict the clear winner.

"I'll be darned if I lose to you again Tommy," says Tom.

Congrats Tom, we're now even. While the Grater Plater worked on a couple items, overall, Tom's not too impressed.

"I don't think its enough to spend ten dollars on," says Tom.

And for that reason his Spud-o-Meter rating is not great at all.

"I'm gonna say a 1.5. It did perform OK with the garlic and ginger. Not very good with the other stuff," says Tom.

You can buy the Grater Plater at Walgreens.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
