Does it Really Work? - iPosture

How's your posture? Today's edition of Does it Really Work? may let you know. The device is supposed to minimize slouching by wearing it on your chest. When worn, the iPosture will vibrate when you slouch and continue to vibrate until your posture is corrected.

"...47 minutes after the hour on your Tuesday," says Tommy Noel.

My mom always told me to sit up straight. I wish I had listened, because I still slouch today. There are several options for wearing the iPosture device.

(while reading the directions) "I can put it on my form fitting shirt, or on my bra, or I can wear it as a necklace, or I can directly put it on the skin with the strap," says Tommy.

I went the easy route and just stuck the iPosture right on my skin. After holding a good, comfortable posture...

"...so I hit it once, ok. It's activated," says Tommy.

To start things off, I purposely slouched over a bit during a commercial break.

"Oh! It just vibrated! I just felt it," says Tommy.

So the iPosture does know when you're slouching, but that obviously was on purpose.

After about half an hour, you begin to forget that you're still wearing the device.

"Oh. It just did it. Man. It does remind you," says Tommy.

I then realized just how often I slouch. The second we go to commercial or to a reporters story, I like to get comfortable.

"Oh. It just did it," says Tommy.

During the two-hour show, the iPosture buzzed about 10 times.

"If you kinda slouch over at your desk this way, that's when it'll get you," says Tommy.

Turning to the Spud-o-Meter...

"I'll give it a four. It does what it promises," says Tommy.

But hold on... Let's get a professional point of view. Dr. Justin Hammon from Alpine Chiropractic knows all about people slouching.

"Posture is very important in someone's life. We see how the world is affecting them. How the stresses of life are affecting their posture. We can see it by just looking at someone," says Dr. Hammon.

Dr Hammon read over all the material and even tried out the device for himself.

"It just buzzed on me. But I was hunched this way," says Dr. Hammon.

One concern he had is the iPosture doesn't catch when your neck is slouching.

"You can correct this way (by standing up straight), but your head can still be forward. You head needs to be back too," says Dr. Hammon.

You heard my point of view, now here's Dr Hammon's point of view.

"It's just making you attentive of something that is going on that you need to change. Just the tool itself, probably wouldn't be that productive unless you had exercises with it," says Dr. Hammon.

Fortunately though when you purchase the iPosture, you get an exercise book for free.

Again, back to the Spud-o-Meter...

"Probably a three," says Dr. Hammon.

With an average of a three-and-a-half.

"I better stand like this now, I don't wanna slouch anymore," says Tommy.

You're advised to wear the iPosture for four hours a day for the first two to four weeks, then two to three times a week to maintain posture.
