Living in Idaho, you're probably familiar with Fry Sauce.   It's an easy, but very popular mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise.

In this edition of Does it Really Work?, Eyewitness News Repoter Tommy Noel tries out a product that takes Fry Sauce to the extreme.

The makers of Bacon Salt have come out with a new product called Baconnaise. 

Heather Buck loves to cook. But feeding a family of 7 can have some challenges.

"I have picky ones and then ones that will eat anything," says Heather Buck.

She's always coming up with new meals with the help of more than 400 cookbooks.

"I read them like novels. I love them," says Heather.

But in all her cookbooks, she won't find this product listed in a recipe. We let the Buck family try out the brand new Baconnaise.

"I thought it would be pretty good, because everybody loves bacon," says Heather.

The family will try out three recipes with Baconnaise. First off, a No-BLT, made with bread, lettuce, tomato and Baconnaise.

"It's like perfect," says Raeni Buck.

"That is good," says Heather.

"It was really simple and you can do it really fast," says Daken Buck.

Next up... Fry sauce.

"I am a Utah girl and I put fry sauce on everything," says Heather.

We whipped up some homemade fries, and made our dipping sauce of ketchup and Baconnaise.

"Oohh.. That's really really good," says all the kids.

"It's not overpowering. Just enough," says Tommy Noel.

So far this family likes the Baconnaise, but to add a twist, we have two people who hate mayonnaise.

"It has that mayonnaise consistency still, but the bacon helps," says Sarah Schwabe.

"I wouldn't eat it again," says Jory Buck.

Our last recipe is Baconnaise Potato Salad.

"I didn't know if I would like it," says Heather.

Heather's opinion quickly changed once everyone dove into the potato salad.

"Oh, this is good," says Heather.

"It kind of added that hint of bacon and smoky flavor," says Raeni.

So all three recipes turned out positive, and Heather was already coming up with recipes she'd make in the future.

"Definitely I would buy it. Cause my kids really liked it, and if they'll eat something, then I'll get it," says Heather.

Idaho law allows state agencies to divert some state income tax refunds to pay legal obligations like court fees, child support, and sheriff's garnishments. Taxpayers whose refunds have been diverted have no legal recourse. What do you think of the law?

  • Times are tight. If the state needs the money, this approach is better than budget cuts, tax hikes, etc.
