Does it Really Work? - iWear
By Tommy Noel
The Eyewitness News staff was really curious about this week's product, Video Eyewear.
You've probably seen the interesting glasses in the SkyMall, that catalog you get on the airplane. Eyewitness News Reporter Tommy Noel tries out iWear in a special holiday gift edition of Does it Really Work? "These look cool," says Sarah Schwabe. Channel 3 employees are always working hard so I thought I'd treat them to a nice movie. Our Feature Presentation is "Hellboy 2." But before the movie, Sarah Schwabe had to charge and set up the iWear. "Oh good. It's color coded," says Sarah. You provide your own DVD player or any other video source, and just press play. "It looks just like a movie theater," says Sarah. Sarah did have an issue early on. "It just won't stay up on my nose," says Sarah. The directions say you can adjust the nose bridge, so Sarah gave that a try. "Ok.. That's better," says Sarah. Our cameras can't exactly pick up what Sarah's seeing, so you'll just have to take her word for it. "I think the idea is really cool," says Sarah. Anthony Congi agrees. "It's pretty good, [but] the quality doesn't make you go 'Wow,'" says Anthony Congi. Anthony found it doesn't matter if the lights are on or off, you get the same effect. "I could definitely see a family or someone that's on the road a lot or maybe in the airplane, that wants a little time out," says Anthony. Five pm producer Brian Bitzer wears glasses and found the two didn't mix well. Without the glasses, it was a little blurry but they stayed on better. "It doesn't work so well with the glasses, but without it, man this is cool," says Brian Bitzer. By the time I got to Araksya Karapetyan, I must say the iWear sure do make you look funny. "Oh wow. This is strange. It is a little distracting because I can see still the room around me. I really have to focus in on the small vision," says Araksya Karapetyan. So mixed reviews with our testers, but all believe this would be good for a traveler who wanted some privacy or kids who play a lot of video games. Turning to the Spud-o-Meter. "Maybe a three," says Anthony. "A three," says Sarah. "If I had great eyesight, that would be a four or five," says Brian. "I would give it a 2.5, three," says Araksya.
