Does it Really Work? - Awesome Auger

School's about to start, the Eastern Idaho State Fair is about to begin, and Spud Days is right around the corner.

It's almost time to do some fall planting as well.

We thought it would be the perfect time to test out the Awesome Auger.

Infomercial: "Hi. Billy Mays here with the Awesome Auger. The world's most efficient and powerful yard tool, you'll ever use."

We thought Shelley resident Robert Welker would have a use for the Awesome Auger.

He spends about 4 hours a day in his yard and garden.

"We have a big yard with a lot of grass to mow," says Robert Welker.

The Auger promises to dig holes for planting bulbs with your electric drill.

Set up was a snap.

"There we go," says Robert.

You then attach the device to any drill and it's time to attack the dirt.

"Works fine," says Robert.

In fact, Robert dug up 10 holes in about 30 seconds.

Now Robert is a pro at gardening, so how about this city boy (reporter Tommy Noel) have a turn with the auger.

After I few snags, I found out the tool was simple to use.

We did notice one discrepancy. The Auger on the box is very long, but ours was considerably shorter.

The holes are all in place, and the planting begins.

"This way, I can do all the holes and go back and plant the bulbs. Before, I would make one hole at a time," says Robert.

How does the Awesome Auger rate on our Spud-O-Meter?

"I would grade it at least a four. I just hope the bulbs bloom," says Robert.

We may just have to do an update in the Spring to see if they bloom.

Get the Awesome Auger at Target. Price is $20, and the drill is not included.
