RV sales 'doing better'

IDAHO FALLS - We're starting to see signs of life elsewhere. And a local RV dealer is thanking the warmer weather. Bish's RV in Idaho Falls is seeing much more business than it originally predicted for this time of year.

"You gotta have fun and create memories," says Ken Owen.

Ken Owen is an avid RV traveler. And he's not letting the economy slow him down.

Rick: "You're still going out and taking the RV out right?"
Ken: "We went out Memorial weekend, and we're planning a couple more trips."

"We're down a bit from last year, but its not horrible," says Tadd Jenkins.

Tadd Jenkins, the owner of Bish's RV tells us because of adventurous people like Owen, his business is in a bit of a turn around.

"We're seeing quite an uptick in the RV interest," says Jenkins. "We're doing better than we were in January, for sure. But, we're not doing as good as we were last May."

Jenkins attributes the increase in sales to better RV deals from the manufacturers. Some as good as $13,000 off. And he thinks the economy will go the direction of his recent sales.

"When that happens, the RV deals are going to go away," says Jenkins. "Our shop is just absolutely slammed."

Those who already have an RV are keeping the folks at Bish's busy with maintenance requests.

"We live in this great amazing area of the world, we need to go explore it," says Jenkins.

"We would rather get out and enjoy the outdoors, 4 wheeling, fishing, whatever, rather than just sitting at home and worrying about what the economy is going to do," says Owen.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
