House fire takes home, no one hurt, pictures saved
IDAHO FALLS - All that's left, a treasure chest of pictures. The Rowland family is lucky they escaped with their lives and their pets lives but their home is destroyed.

"It's been in our family for over 100 years, so a lot of memories, but at least we have the pictures," says home owner, Anjenette Rowland.

At 1:45 this morning, the Rowlands came home from a late night movie and saw smoke coming up from the basement.

"By the time we went to see what it was, it was so full of smoke we couldn't see anything or see where it was coming from," explains Rowland.

It took the Idaho Falls Fire department a couple hours to knock it out. They worked until seven a.m.

"They have what we call balloon frame construction where these studs in the walls run continuously from the basement all the way to the top," says Idaho Fall Fire Department investigator Joe Nichols.

There is an open void in the side wall that shoots straight up and that is how the fire traveled from the basement floor through the walls and into the attic. Fire investigators are still searching for the cause, Anjenette thinks it might be something electrical in the basement.

No one was hurt. Damages are around $250,000.

"I mean everything is gone, so you know everything you worked so hard for is absolutely gone, nothing left," says Rowland.

Wind Farms

The wind turbines lining the foothills east of Idaho Falls are getting a lot of attention. What do you think about the wind farms?

  • They're too close to residential areas and they're lowering property values. They're ruining the view. Build them somewhere else!
  • They provide clean energy, and they generate local jobs and tax revenue. They're the wave of the future. Welcome to town!
  • Not sure.
