Super Bowl means super calories

IDAHO FALLS - Whether it was pizza, wings, burgers, or chips and dip; Eastern Idaho loves celebrating the Super Bowl.

Earlier today, local stores will still very busy with people grabbing those last minutes items before kickoff.

"We're gonna have chips and salsa, steaks, and vegetable trays. And a little bit of refreshments," said John Hoover.

"We're gonna have all kinds of great stuff. we're having hot wings, a little bit of chili, pork and beef, both of them. we're gonna do steamed asparagus with wasabi dip," sats Dave Sherman.

And if you're like me, you probably had a little bit of everything. Which really adds up the calorie counter quickly.

Two slices of pizza? You're already looking at close to 700 calories.

I know I definitely did some damage to the hot wing platter; fried buffalo hot wings will set you back 80 calories apiece.

And how does that translate to what you need to work off?

Well, those potato chips you picked at all day? Let's just figure you had about two handfuls.

According to a study from Indiana University, to burn those calories, you'll need to run the equivalent of 45 football fields.

Just a single nacho chip in seven layer dip? That's 9 ½ minutes of stadium stair climbing.

If you're a beer drinker, there's about 103 calories for a typical light brew, 153 for regular.

A brat will cost you about 286 calories, a beef hot dog about 188. Add another 100 or so calories for the bun. And we won't even get into the condiment issue.

I don't know about you, but I completely lost count of my calories and I'll see you at the gym.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
