High school students help teach Rachel's Challenge to Edgemont Elementary
By Tommy Noel
IDAHO FALLS - Make the world a kinder, more compassionate place. That's the pledge students at Edgemont Elementary made Monday during an assembly.
It's all part of Rachel's Challenge. Rachel Scott was the first person killed in the Columbine Tragedy in 1999. Before Rachel died, she believed she could make a difference by showing kindness and compassion to her peers. Using high school students as roll players, Edgemont kids learned examples of how to be kind. "Rather than spending time on bullying and discipline and focusing on the negative part of things, we're gonna focus on the positive, and really help create this positive behavior support for the students here at Edgemont," says Dave Webster of Edgemont Elementary. Students will now make chain links around the school. When students see acts of kindness, they'll write them down on paper, and link them up, forming a chain. |
