IDAHO FALLS - Last year police made 96 DUI arrests, so this year, they're cracking down and hoping people make wiser new year's resolutions.

Holiday celebrating, means drinking and drinking means driving home, and driving home, means designating a sober driver.

"People are driving too fast for the conditions and when you have alcohol in your system your ability to judge the driving condition and the terrain out there really aren't that sharp and we are really seeing a lot of people involved in a lot of alcohol related crashes," says ISP Lt. Chris Weadick.

You don't want to start 2010 off like this.

"Hey how are, the reason I stopped you is I noticed you had a headlight out..When we're looking for impaired drivers, I'll try to stop people for any violation I see," says ISP Lt. Matt Wall.

Idaho State's legal blood alcohol level is .08, but that doesn't mean you can drink over the limit. A one-hundred and sixty pound man, can have a blood alcohol level of .04 after consuming two 12 ounce drinks.

"People need to keep in mind that even having one or two alcoholic drinks can really impair your judgment and impair your ability to operate a vehicle safely," adds Weadick.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
