Run to feed the hungry

IDAHO FALLS - More than 900 runners make this the second biggest event of it's kind in Idaho topped only by Boise.

Feeding the hungry was on everyones mind as they braved the below freezing morning temperatures, but these runners weren't going to let a little winter chill stop them in their tracks.

"It was fun. Cold, but fun!" says Margaret Huggins, race sponsor.

"It's for charity so ya I'll come out," says Mark Irving, race runner.

"Nice job, nice job!" says the announcer.

Proceeds will help bring warm holiday meals to those who would otherwise go without one.

"Help people to have the things that we have and to let them know that we care for them," says a young runner.

Care that many shared beyond the hour run.

"There are more than two thousand volunteer hours that are given to assist in putting this event on," says Michael Hayes, event director.

And there seems to be a common theme for thanks this holiday season.

"To give thanks for all that we have and hopefully make it different for some who don't have as much of what we all have," says Huggins.

"I'm pretty lucky in my life. I feel fortunate and it's nice to come out and run for a good cause," says Michael Irving, a race runner.

"Nice job, nice job!" says the announcer.

The runners raised well over $10,000 dollars but that's still not much compared to the demand for help.

To help your neighbors in need stop by your local food bank anytime during the holidays.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
