Agency adds uniform-cams to the force

TETON COUNTY - At a fraction of the cost of a car-cam, the Teton County Sheriff's Office is able to equip every deputy with a silent witness.

"The impact for us, often times deputies are responding to things alone. This is kind of their partner, as somebody coined, it's their silent witness," said Teton Co. Sheriff Tony Liford.

And they've already put it to use.

"We're investigating a theft, and we went to the home. We were speaking to one party, and the second party called 9-11 stating that we had entered the home illegally," Liford explained.

They pulled the footage from the flash drive just like this, and put that allegation to rest.

"The video clearly showed, and the audio clearly indicated that we had been invited," said Liford.

The video quality of the mini camera is even comparable to my own camera.

"So far these are working out well," said Liford.

So the next time an officer approaches you in Teton County, just know, you're on candid camera.

The Teton County Sheriff's Office got the idea to use personal mini cameras from another Idaho law enforcement agency.

So it wouldn't surprise me if the trend catches on in surrounding communities.
