Vandals leave death threats, graffiti in Idaho Falls neighborhood

IDAHO FALLS - This Idaho Falls neighborhood on 14th street between Calkins and Alice has seen plenty of vandalism over the past few days.

The alleyway that separates the houses on 13th and 14th have been hit several times with graffiti.

While it's been an annoyance, all the people in the neighborhood can do is try and clean it off their garages.

But things got much more serious when Debi Saunders woke up to find her car spray painted with a message written on her window reading 'Dead, dead, dead. Come on, bad expletive. Next house boy. Try me'.

"It just talks as if they're talking to a young kid. At my age and with no children here, it just doesn't make any sense," says Saunders.

And that wasn't the only threat left.

"My neighbor got a note slipped into her mail that said 'dead, dead dead, I'm going to kill your dogs," Saunders explained.

She immediately called the police, but isn't confident much was being done. That's when Debi decided to take action for herself and let everyone in the community know about what is going on.

"We need to not bury our heads in the sand and pretend that this isn't happening because it is. And I've spread the word as much as I can to my neighbors and just ask that we all watch our for each other," says Saunders.

But Idaho Falls police tell me they'll also be around.

"Absolutely. Where there's an area like that and there's being threats made to a specific person or a property, we'll definitely increase patrol in those areas and make the officers aware that the problem is happening," explains Sargent Phil Grimes. "We are investigating the matter and we do want to try to solve the case and get the people responsible arrested".

Debi would love for the people who did this to come and clean it, but knows that probably won't happen.

Sargent Grimes recommends that more areas should start or be more aggressive with neighborhood watches to keep incidents like this from happening.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
