New mayor of Rexburg announced
REXBURG - "It's heartening and frightening all at the same time. I have a lot of work ahead of myself and we have a lot of work ahead of us as city council," says Mayor Richard Woodland.

The big question on many people's minds over the last few weeks, who will take over mayor in Rexburg? With more than 13 candidates the city council chose councilman Richard Woodland in a five to one vote.

"I plan to fulfill this commitment and then let the voice of the people be heard," says Woodland.

That voice wasn't heard this election. Since Mayor Shawn Larsen resigned from his term as mayor, the city council was forced to appoint a new mayor. With the results from city council election's Tuesday, Donna Bennfield won the majority vote and was also was running for Mayor. Some citizens though she would be next in line, but the council made it clear tonight, they were appointing someone they've worked closely with over the last few years, and Bennfield would still be a part of the team.

"I was a supporter of Donna Bennfield in the last election and I'm a supporter now. I think she's going to make a great councilman, plus she has a voice on the chamber of commerce and I think that's a positive thing for the city of Rexburg," he says.

Councilman and interim Mayor Christopher Mann was also a candidate for mayor, but withdrew from the race.

So for the next two years, Mayor Woodland plans to make some changes and help the city of Rexburg through growth and expansion.

Since a council member was chosen to be mayor... That means the council will then have to appoint another council member to fill Mayor Woodlands seat.

The candidate Christopher West got the fourth amount of votes in last nights elections, but that doesn't mean he's next in line. That's up for the council to decide.

Quran burning

A Florida pastor says he is likely to burn copies of the Quran on September 11th. Gen. David Petraeus says the action could endanger US troops. The pastor says he's just standing up to radical Islam. What do you think of the idea?

  • A stupid idea. His symbolic protest puts real soldiers in danger, and shows the world we practice the same intolerance we condemn in our enemy.
  • A great idea. We need to spend less time worrying about whether our enemies in this war might be offended. If this is how he chooses to express himself, I'm all for it.
  • Not sure.
