ROBERTS - Last night's candidate Ben Poston- meant to say next "term"... Although the defeated challenger lost the city council seat by one vote- his confidence remains strong.

"Anybody who's a little bit experienced in the political arena knows that winning isn't the best thing and losing isn't the worst thing," says the former candidate for the city council seat, Benjamin Poston.

The former mayor of Roberts has been a resident for 35 years- he's disappointed more of his supporters failed to cast their vote.

"One of my friends didn't turn up or one of her friends did," says Poston. "in the smaller communities it is very important."

Roberts only has 642 people eligible to vote- and only 155 registered voters... Only 68 votes were counted!

"There were two city council seats open, Robert Berlin Jr. took one with 44 votes, Pat O'Malley-George took 38 votes, and Ben Poston came in just one short with 37 votes. That makes pat and Robert the new city representatives."

"It was surprising that the other two were so close, so I really had my election clerks, we counted three different times," says the Roberts city clerk, Gale Schivner.

The incumbent was disappointed in the overall turnout- she wishes she had done more to tally up her votes.

"I sent out fliers, people that I wasn't sure were registered, at least I told them where to go," says the re-elected city council seat representative Pat O'Malley-George.

Employees in Roberts were shocked to see the difference one vote can make.

"If the people on the outskirts could have voted then I think it might have changed," says Lucy's pizza employee, Elise Padigimus.

It may be hard to see the weight of just one vote on a national scale, but when it comes down to a town of about 150 voters, and only 60 percent of them fill out a ballot- then people can see the impact their check mark makes.
