Blackfoot High temporarily evacuated due to leaky pipe

BLACKFOOT - Students were temporarily evacuated from Blackfoot High School Wednesday morning when a water pipe broke.

The pipe carried hot water to heat the school.

Teachers reported steam in the area shortly before ceiling tiles started caving in.

Several gallons of water spilled onto the floor before the boilers could be shut off.

It took crews about an hour to replace the pipe, and clean up. Tom Harrington, Blackfoot High Assistant Principal said, "I think probably an inspection is in order, but the maintenance crew is pretty adept at making sure things are operational. This was kind of a surprise to us all."

There is some carpet damage in classrooms, but they will be usable.
