CHUBBUCK - On Tuesday people in Chubbuck will have the chance to vote for two new City Council Members.

Unlike other cities, Chubbuck City Council Members run at-large.

This year that means the two people who get the most votes will get a seat.

Joshua Ellis ran for City Council two years ago, and came in third.

If elected this time he wants to bring in more businesses to increase the tax base, build new freeway on-ramps, and work more closely with Pocatello to obtain funding. Joshua Ellis, Chubbuck City Council Candidate said, "I think often times we forget that growth is probably going to happen with or without use, but lets make it what we want it to be."

You may recognize the name Kevin England.

His brother, Steven, is currently Chubbuck City Mayor, but Kevin doesn't see that as a positive or negative for his campaign.

His platform focuses on planning ahead with infrastructure, supporting the sewer project, and trying to lower city fees. Kevin England, Chubbuck City Council Candidate said, "Everybody has economic challenges right now, and I think we need to be very wise with using tax dollars, and fees that come from the public."

Tyler Medina wanted to run for office after attending several City Council meetings, and deciding money wasn't always being used appropriately.

He specifically thinks the fire and police departments need more help, and he feels the city isn't planning for future growth. Tyler Medina, Chubbuck City Council Candidate said, "What are we going to do in 10 years if we don't have the resources in place to take care of (the increase population)? Well we've got to think of those things now. We've got to start putting that together today. Otherwise, we're going to be too late."

The only incumbent, and woman, running for City Council is Becky Ponkow.

She thinks the city is focusing too much on beauty and not enough on maintenance.

For example, she wants to see roads, and pipes fixed so we don't just replace them later.

Ponkow also feels the city needs to do more strategic planning. Becky Ponkow, Chubbuck City Council Candidate said, "We should have a plan in place that is comprehensive. The council should know that so every time we approve something we know exactly what the ramifications are for every department."

There are six different polling places for the Chubbuck election.
