ROBERTS - With more than a hundred years of history there's no telling what exactly happened in this building, but for whatever reason through the years, some visitors never seemed to leave.

"This building is haunted. This building is well haunted," says Cherillee Berlin, owner of BJ's Bayou.

A high class hotel built in the center of Roberts in 1892 by Idaho's first Secretary of State Martin Petry.

"Roberts was actually a fairly large town back then. It had a cigar factory it had three newspapers. You had the stage stop here and the train stop here," she says.

But as the years went by, so did many of its owners and the building began to change.

"It just continually changed hands and you went into the war period where it was the American Hotel and then it was the Roberts Hotel. Then you had the Emergency Hospital in the building," adds Berlin.

A building with walls full of history through the Great Depression, two world wars, and a cultural revolution.

"I would imagine if it could tell you stories she would have some doosies," she says.

This building is now know as BJ's Bayou and the Berlin family calls it home. But every so often something will happen and they'll realize they're never alone.

"When you walk in here you can feel it. It's not an oppressive feeling, it's just wow if this place could talk," says Berlin.

With more than 117 years of history there's no telling what or who has been left behind.

"Murders and hangings and why did this person hang himself here and when you think about the history and who actually came through," she adds.

Or perhaps those who stuck around.

"We have people tell us we have people buried in our courtyard and we should dig it up. If they're there, I'm just going to leave them laying. I'm not going to dig them up," says Berlin.

In the meantime, we'll continue to dig in to the past lives that roam these halls.

There are many reasons why the Berlin family tries to keep the peace. Perhaps it's the late night whispers or random footsteps they hear when nobody else is actually home.

Friday nights at 10, we'll take a look at the hauntings of BJ's Bayou and meet the ghosts of Robert's past.
