Pocatello teen runs against two-term councilman
POCATELLO - Two candidates running for city council are separated by more than their goals for the city.

There is also an age difference of nearly four decades.

Ethan Ciccone just graduated from Blackfoot High School.

He works at Taco Bell, and is taking some classes at Idaho State University. Ethan Ciccone, 19-year-old City Council Candidate said, "I'm dedicated to making Pocatello a better place to live, and bringing the voice of the people to City Hall."

Ciccone's goals, if elected, include improving roads and neighborhoods.

He also believes the city could save money by becoming more efficient with vehicles and energy.

As for his age, the 19-year-old Ciccone believes youth is a benefit. Ciccone said, "We have to have diversity in our city government, and just in the community leadership. And part of that is having young, fresh leadership."

In contrast, incumbent Gary Moore has served a total of eight years on the City Council, and believes that experience is what makes him a good candidate. Gary Moore, Pocatello City Council Seat 6 Incumbent said, "I'm very familiar with the community, and the business community in Pocatello, and I think I have the skills to make good decisions. The interesting part about being on the city council is you have to make a lot of decisions that effect a lot of people."

Moore works at the Sheriff's Office as an Emergency Services Coordinator.

Before that he worked at the Fire Department, and even served as Chief for several years.

If re-elected Moore believes the most important thing he can do is bring more businesses to the Gate City. Moore said, "I want to see Pocatello continue to grow, and succeed, be a better community. And I think I'm able to contribute to that."

Candidates also encourage everyone to go out and vote.

So far the absentee voting has been slow.

As of Thursday night only 126 votes have been cast in Pocatello.

Wind Farms

The wind turbines lining the foothills east of Idaho Falls are getting a lot of attention. What do you think about the wind farms?

  • They're too close to residential areas and they're lowering property values. They're ruining the view. Build them somewhere else!
  • They provide clean energy, and they generate local jobs and tax revenue. They're the wave of the future. Welcome to town!
  • Not sure.
