Christmas lights going up in Rexburg
By Steven Pope
REXBURG - "Oh you better watch out, you better not cry. You better not shout, I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town," sang Jerry Merrill, owner of Holiday and Event Lighting.
It might be too early for Christmas Carols, but it's the perfect time to put up Christmas lights. If you wait too long, the snow will make it extremely dangerous to move about on the roof. "It seems a little early, but it's such a short window, We can avoid some of the bad weather that comes later on," said Merrill. The most dangerous part of getting lights on your roof is actually on the ladder. So before you go up, take some precautions. "Sometimes the ground is slick, just going up and coming down it's easy to slip and fall. We've had several accidents around town the last few years. You want to be really careful that ladder is in a really good spot, or you have someone holding it while you go up, because you don't want to end up in the hospital during the holiday season," said Merrill. And that's why some people just leave it up to the professionals. Another great tip is to check power management. That includes sockets, fuses, and lights. This precaution could prevent a house fire. |
