REXBURG - Mayoral applications can now be picked up from City Hall in Rexburg.

The City Council chose to go with applications because they weren't ready to appoint a mayor at the last meeting.

The Apps resemble a resume, and ask for things like work history and character references.

"When someone chooses to run for mayor, they think it through. They think through they need to convince 20,000 people that they are right for the job. Right now all they have to do is convince a majority of the council, they gotta convince 4 people they are right for the job. All that consists of is answering a couple of a questions and a couple of references on there. I don't think that proves to the voters that you'd be a good enough mayor," said Chris West, a City Council Candidate.

Whoever the council decides to appoint, they'll be paid 59-thousand dollars a year.

The last appointed mayor in Rexburg was Bruce Sutherland. When City Council was faced with that decision, all they did was just ask Sutherland to take the job.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
