Authorities in Power County have arrested two men they say killed a number of cattle two years ago.

At least ten head of cattle were killed and another three found injured in the summer of 2004. The Power County Sheriff's Office believes they've found the men responsible for the killings.

Jim Jeffries, Power County Sheriff: "The investigation really began several months ago when we received information regarding the identity of who might be responsible for committing these offenses."

21 year old Ryan Ruffridge of Pocatello and 23 year old Gordon Mclean are each charged with four counts of grand theft. Authorities believe the two former BLM workers shot and killed at least ten cattle in the Mink Creek area.

Authorities say a tip called in to the sheriff's office led them to both men.

"Over a period of several months we developed the information into probable cause sufficient enough to file charges," says Jim Jeffries.

And if it weren't for the Arbon Valley Ranchers Association, the case may have never been solved. That's because the group put up a ten thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Larry Fitch, Ranch Owner: "I'm glad we caught them. It's been going on too long."

Kirk Swim, Ranch Owner: "They haven't got any fear of people and to have someone stop and shoot them, they probably didn't have any idea what was going on."

With the price of cattle topping nearly $1,200 a head, the ranchers say they plan to seek restitution for the crimes.
