REXBURG - Only 200 potatoes were sold for the 5th annual spud race in Rexburg.

That's bad news Madison County trails, who sponsored the fundraiser... But great news for participants.

Everyone who showed up took home a prize ranging from 50 pounds of potatoes, all the way up to the grand prize, a brand new laptop.

Vice Chair Joseph West with the Madison Trails, "We've actually made quite a bit of progress in the last few years. We're not quite where we'd like. When we started this program 6 years ago. We hardly had anything for people to see. We now have trails along the Teton river, up to Sugar City, and now we're working on a trail through Eagle Park."

Other notable prizes for the top 25 spuds included a topaz ring, a lawn mower, car details and oil changes.

Hopefully next year will bring a bigger turn out.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
