Zoo pelican swallows cell phone

IDAHO FALLS - A mishap at the Tauphaus Park Zoo almost led to x-raying a flock of pelicans.

Visitors at the zoo noticed the pelicans tossing a cell phone back and forth then one of them swallowed it.

Zoo keepers couldn't figure out which one ate the phone or who owned it.

"Luckily the bird regurgitated it so it wouldn't harm him. We just need folks to be really cautious when they're in the zoo and remember that they're guests in the animals homes and they need to keep their personal belongings as close to them as possible," says Bill Gersonde, zoo superintendent.

The birds are all fine now, resting on Pelican Pier and still no word on the owner of that phone.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
