SHOSHONE - A Lincoln County Chief deputy died in a one vehicle rollover crash on Saturday evening.

Joshua Eggelston, 35, of Dietrich, lost control of his patrol car when the left rear tire went flat as he approached a curve on State Highway 24 near Mallard Road.

Eggelston was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected when the vehicle rolled off the south side of the highway, officials say.

Idaho State Police is investigating the crash.

This is the second law enforcement official to be killed in a car-related crash this month in Idaho. On July 6, Adams County deputy Monte Matthews died after his patrol car crossed over the center line and hit an on-coming van. That crash also killed Mountain Home Air Force Capt. Mark Zampogna.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
