HAILEY (AP) — A central Idaho man will be allowed to keep his bobcat at his home at least until August.

Police were called in last week in Hailey when a resident of this tourist town south of Sun Valley reported a big cat had jumped his fence.

Initially, Hailey Police ordered Anthony Pruitt, the cat's owner, to remove it from city limits.

Hailey has a law against keeping wild animals as pets.

But Pruitt protested at a city council meeting, saying that the animal has been declawed and is a treasured household pet that "thinks it's a dog."

City officials relented, after Pruitt said that his lease is up in August and he plans to leave town — with the big bobcat in tow.

Bobcats are about twice the size of normal house cats.

Quran burning

A Florida pastor says he is likely to burn copies of the Quran on September 11th. Gen. David Petraeus says the action could endanger US troops. The pastor says he's just standing up to radical Islam. What do you think of the idea?

  • A stupid idea. His symbolic protest puts real soldiers in danger, and shows the world we practice the same intolerance we condemn in our enemy.
  • A great idea. We need to spend less time worrying about whether our enemies in this war might be offended. If this is how he chooses to express himself, I'm all for it.
  • Not sure.
