IDAHO FALLS - Every day hundreds of cats and dogs are euthanized. They have no home and no place to go.
"It just breaks my heart to think that any animal has to go down," says Julia Townsend.
After months of seeing hundreds of animals euthanized Julia and her friend Lisa knew they had to help.
"Working to try to get these animals rescued. Either by getting them adopted or getting them transported out of here to a rescue group," says Townsend.
The organization, H.A.R.T, Helping Animal Rescue Team all started with just a few cell phone snap shots.
"I would put a collage together of pictures and then I would email them out to my friends and it started growing," she adds.
Networking that grew so fast, it reached Canada.
"One just took a weimerriener that we had here and we've got a rescue group from St. Louis. It's so exciting to see how broad we've grown. Just a couple of girls in here trying to rescue these animals," says Townsend.
With the effort put into H.A.R.T. they've been able to rescue over 60 cats and dogs in just a few months.
"It's just turned out to be a really great thing for these animals all the way around," says Kerry Johnson, Animal Control Officer.
The Idaho Falls Animal Shelter takes in as many as they can, but the stalls fill up quickly and adoption isn't fast enough.
"There's beautiful animals here that desperately need to have a new home," says Townsend.
"And sadly they are sometimes euthanized because nobody claims them or adopts them," says Lisa Voigt.
Saving one animal will not change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal.
"They all need homes, they need responsible homes and responsible people to take care of them, to keep them out of the shelters and from being euthanized," says Voigt.
If you would like to get involved with H.A.R.T. for the weekly updates email julikins30@gmail.com.
They're hoping to expand the network to as many people and animal rescue teams as possible.
The Idaho Falls Animal Shelter is always looking for volunteers to help out walking animals or help out with cleaning. Every little bit of help will go a long way.
