ISU students will soon get experience working on wind turbines
POCATELLO - Students in the ESTEC program at Idaho State University will soon get some hands on experience with wind turbines.

This morning a crane delivered the first nacelle, the portion of the turbine that rotates the blades.

The school will also be getting an 80-foot tower in the future which will help students get real-world training. Scott Rasmussen, ESTEC Executive Director said, "Actually being able to climb a 75 foot tower, get inside of those nacelles, work on it, change the oil, work on all the electronic and controls systems-there's no comparison to hands-on training."

The school was able to get the old turbines with help from Ridgeline Energy, LLC, Eagle Rock Timber, Frontier Pro Services, Lewandowski Farms, LLC, and enXco Service Corporation.

Wind Farms

The wind turbines lining the foothills east of Idaho Falls are getting a lot of attention. What do you think about the wind farms?

  • They're too close to residential areas and they're lowering property values. They're ruining the view. Build them somewhere else!
  • They provide clean energy, and they generate local jobs and tax revenue. They're the wave of the future. Welcome to town!
  • Not sure.
