IDAHO FALLS - Thousands of American's die every year because of Alcohol. Idaho Falls High School shows us the seriousness of drinking and driving through this video and a guest speaker to help their fellow friends and family make the right decisions.

"When somebody drinks to the point of intoxication and they cause a crash, the consequences of those choices are not accidents," says Jason Barber.

The Girls Federation of Idaho Falls High brings Barber to the school as part of its "Every 15 Minutes" campaign. This to spread awareness of drinking and driving so they don't have to learn the way he did.

"When the truck came to a stop, the first conscious thought that I had in my head was, Erin is not in the truck anymore," says Barber.

The emotional words from someone who caused the tragedy. After being heavily intoxicated and street racing, Jason crashed his truck killing his 15-year-old. A pain that will never subside.

"It's been 18 years now. There are days like the holidays, like Erin's birthday that it's right there. It's something that I will live with for the rest of my life," he says.

And for his family...

"My mom, my dad, my little sister, my grandparents, my aunt and uncles, they didn't deserve the pain the was imposed on them. One choice that I made in a split second I thought it was not any big deal, left my family shattered for years and they'll never be the same again,"

Barber spent four years of his life in a California penitentiary for killing his brother. Since then he has learned to appreciate life and give others a chance to make the right decisions.

"I'm hoping people take it to heart and listen to his story so they don't have a story of their own to tell," says Natalie Milligan, senior at I.F. High and the spear head of the campaign.

"I feel an impact on myself that I want to make a pledge forever, that I will never drink and drive," says Kelsey Leask, school president.

Someone dies as the result of an alcohol related accident every 15 minutes, don't let your decisions make you the next.

Wind Farms

The wind turbines lining the foothills east of Idaho Falls are getting a lot of attention. What do you think about the wind farms?

  • They're too close to residential areas and they're lowering property values. They're ruining the view. Build them somewhere else!
  • They provide clean energy, and they generate local jobs and tax revenue. They're the wave of the future. Welcome to town!
  • Not sure.
