Gun show comes to town
By Justine Beauvais
POCATELLO - "Cause I'm a gun nut," says Teno Chavez.
That's the reason Teno Chavez made his way out to the Lewis and Clark Trader Gun Show. "I've lived out on the dessert for many many years and I could go out and shoot my guns anytime I wanted to," says Chavez. Those many many years are actually decades, and now retired for 15, Chavez continues to carry a love for shooting his guns. "People should have guns you know, we have that right," he says. And with that right comes responsibility. "I've been a person to never mistreat my guns and another person with it because it isn't my nature." The nature of Chavez, to leave his guns at home, and only take them out when he plans to hunt elk, deer, or shoot some targets. "As old as I am I never had to carry a gun for protection." But a gun for protection is important for others. "If someone comes in my house to harm me and my wife or something, I don't want to stand there and watch them hurt us," says Thomas Mason. As long as that person knows what they're doing. "Not everyone I don't think should be, are capable, of carrying it but if someone, i don't know, takes the training and gets classing I think they should be able to," says Mason. For Chavez he takes pride knowing he is well informed and experienced when it comes to his weapon. "I just never misused a gun," says Chavez. And that a gun is in no way a problem solver. "I've never had to point my gun at another person," he says. Lewis and Clark Trader puts on hundreds of gun shows every year all throughout Idaho and parts of Washington. |
