POCATELLO - A Blackfoot man accused of stealing items from Sportsman's Warehouse in Pocatello was in court today.

Max Kenneth McCammon allegedly took archery equipment from the store back in November.

McCammon was looking at a burglary charge, but the prosecutor modified that to one charge of grand theft because the items taken were worth more than $1,000.

McCammon waived today's preliminary hearing and will now go to district court.

Idaho law allows state agencies to divert some state income tax refunds to pay legal obligations like court fees, child support, and sheriff's garnishments. Taxpayers whose refunds have been diverted have no legal recourse. What do you think of the law?

  • Times are tight. If the state needs the money, this approach is better than budget cuts, tax hikes, etc.
  • I'm entitled to the refund, and the state can just take it? Unfair and ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
