Broken promise leads to Direct TV refund
By Jennifer McGraw
IDAHO FALLS - Ten days of service, no local channels and a hefty bill of $358 dollars later.
"I told them that I was going to cancel it because I wasn't getting the local channels I was promised." Alice Follett signed up with Direct TV through a company called Dish One Satellite. Two employees came to her house and offered her a new service that would give her local channels. "I asked him specifically if I would be able to get local channels and the man said oh absolutely, but it will take a special antenna," says Follett. A week after installing Direct TV, they came back to install the antenna. Only it didn't work. "I could not get local channels. It was just fuzz and static," she added. Technically you only have 24-hours to cancel, but in this case it took ten days to even find out the service wouldn't work. She sent registered letters to Direct TV for a refund and they still refused. So I called Direct TV for a resolution. "Granted she had service with you for ten days, however she didn't have the service she wanted and she cancelled it the minute she found out she couldn't get local channels," I asked Direct TV. "They didn't hold up their end of the contract, so how can they expect me to pay for breaking the contract?" asked Follett. Finally, after talking to Direct TV today, they called Mrs. Follett with the good news she was waiting for. She got the full $358 dollars back and has since switched to Cableone.
