Major accident area causing problems for drivers
By Hasti Taghi
BONNEVILLE COUNTY - It's a road shared by two cities. One of the most dangerous in the area, and nothing is being done to fix it.
"It's one of the biggest places for accidents," says Sargent David Frei of the Idaho Falls Police Department. Hitt road near 17th street is one area you've probably spent a lot of time. The road is the connecting point of Idaho Falls and Ammon. If you're turning left, you may want to buckle down and wait. The city feels it cannot put a light here because of it's close proximity to lights on both 17th and 25th. But can something else be done? "I know there have been talks of doing something," says Frei. In 2004, the city of Idaho Falls discussed the total elimination of left turns on Hitt road. That would require installing a median. But no changes were made at that time. It was decided to leave things the way they are until things becomes unmanageable. No set guidelines as to what it will take. Five years later and there's still no solution to this growing problem. "Drivers should try to avoid turning left," says Frei. |
