Empty cages at Bonneville County Humane Society
By Hasti Taghi
BONNEVILLE COUNTY - "We did see a lot of animals that people couldn't afford and we tried to help as many as we could but we had to refer them to the shelter when we ran out of room," says Sally Rigoulot.
And although the humane society is a no-kill zone, the Idaho Falls Shelter has no choice but to euthanize when it runs out of room. But that was the story before the holidays. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and, "As you can see, our cages are all empty," says Rigoulot. Empty cages are good news for the humane society and the animals it helps. "They get homes for Christmas," says Rigoulot. After weeks of seeing these cages full of homeless pets, the holidays brought a welcomed silence to this room. A silence that still remains. "A lot of times during Christmas, people get them but they don't ask permission," says Rigoulot. Meaning some of those pets are returned. But, so far this year, that hasn't been the case. "This is really good news. We're adopting out a lot," say Rigoulot. |
