AMMON - Some Hillcrest High Students are working hard so spectators at one Idaho Falls stadium will have a decent place to sit.

Eyewitness News Reporter Tommy Noel met with the students today and has this story.

"It's really amazing to have these kids do things they've never done before," says Galyn DeCoria, Manufacturing teacher at Hillcrest.

Pretty soon, Devin Crighton's senior project will be sat on.  And that's a good thing.

"I decided it would be a good idea to get some new bleachers and support our schools too," says Devin Crighton.

This manufacturing class is building new bleachers for the hockey rink at Tautphaus Park.

"We're gonna make these and hope they last a long time," says Nicholas Sharp.

The current ones at the rink....

"They're not safe," says Sharp.

"The boards would actually break and people would fall through," says Crighton.

Devin's the guy in charge and divies out the jobs.

"One person will cut, one person will weld, the other person will do the odds and ends," says Crighton.

For most, this is the first time students have gotten near this kind of equipment.

"They're almost scared of them and they're excited after finish using them," says DeCoria.

The project is going up fast, but the class has run into a snag, they need more donations to compete the goal of eight bleachers total.

"I want two bleachers per school, so I can paint them the school colors so they have somewhere during their school games to stand," says Crighton.

Even though they're working towards a goal, they're taking the project one step at a time.

"I was surprised to see everyone come together and work on this project as a class, as a team," says Crighton.

"We get work done and we have fun doing it," says Sharp.

The class was already given several donations from various steel companies, but they still need help.  If you would like to help the students out with equipment or monetary donations, send an e-mail to tommyn@kidk.com and he'll point you in the right direction.

Wind Farms

The wind turbines lining the foothills east of Idaho Falls are getting a lot of attention. What do you think about the wind farms?

  • They're too close to residential areas and they're lowering property values. They're ruining the view. Build them somewhere else!
  • They provide clean energy, and they generate local jobs and tax revenue. They're the wave of the future. Welcome to town!
  • Not sure.
