Suspicious package in Ucon a false alarm
By Jennifer McGraw
UCON - Tense moments for neighbors and police in Ucon today. Another suspicion of explosives was called in.
"They just came and knocked on my door and asked if I could go out to the left and stay gone until they called me," says Ashley Marley. Around nine o' clock this morning, her sister-in-law on North Yellowstone called police because someone had pulled over across the street from her house. "She saw the car stop and set the suitcase outside on the street and then leave," says Marley. Moments later Ucon police and Bonneville County were on scene. "We want to take all precautions necessary to make sure nothing happens to the public," says Bonneville County Deputy Doug Cook. Idaho Falls bomb squad quickly responded and shortly after suited up and sent in the robot. "They took an x-ray of it and determined there was nothing inside. They opened it and nothing was inside," says Cook. But police say they are suspicious of the owners of that bag. "We'll evaluate the circumstances and make a determination to see what best fits each different scenario," says Cook. Two brothers were said to be responsible for this suitcase. One told police it fell off his truck on the way to the dump. Police aren't buying their story and say the brothers had conflicting stories that just didn't add up. However, there is not enough evidence to hold them right now. Meanwhile, police took the suitcase as evidence and are still investigating. |
