Aggressive Drivers

POCATELLO - Thanksgiving is one of the busier traveling days of the year and many people hit the road to get to their destination. But hurrying to begin their holiday festivities contributes to dangerous driving.
"We see a lot more people speeding, tail gating, failing to signal...all the things that contribute to crashes," says Sergeant Michael Winans of the Idaho State Police Department. So during this time, the Idaho State Police send out extra road patrol. This year, the amount of traffic on the roads dropped. "I was actually kind of surprising I didn't think there was as much traffic as there has been in the past years," says Winans. Nevertheless, the holiday still added more traffic than usual. " I kept myself very busy. There were plenty of things to do," he says. Extra patrols will also be sent out during Christmas, but hopes are drivers will pay attention behind the wheel. "We try to remind the public to give themselves ample opportunity and enough time to get to their destination safely to account for potential crashes that is going to delay them even further," says Winans. |
