ROCKLAND - If you already have a digital converter box you may still have some problems picking up digital signals depending on where you live.

When we switch over to a digital signal here at KIDK 3 we'll be broadcasting on a new frequency that has a difficult time getting past mountains, and over long distances. James Robinson, a Rockland resident who may not get digital television over the air said,"I don't know what more I can do."

When people in Rockland began hooking up their digital converter boxes a few months ago they found out they aren't getting stations. Robinson said, "We feel like something is being stolen from us."

After checking their antenna's and making some phone calls they learned that they weren't seeing digital stations because of where they lived. "I started to think, now what are they going to force me to do? Go spend $30 or $40 a month if I want to have some sort of broadcast TV?" said Robinson.

And the robinson's aren't alone. Gary Smith, KIDK 3 Chief Engineer said, "Early on in the process, our digital system was predicted that we would lose about 8% of our analog audience."

People living in bad reception areas like Rockland could switch over to cable or satellite services if its available. But many are concerned about paying all that extra money every month for just their local stations.

Areas like Mackay, Moore, and Ashton may also have problems with a digital signal because of their distance from transmitter sites.

You can try adjusting your antenna, or moving it to a new location to get a signal, but thay may not always work. Robinson said, "I installed (the converter box) before the tv's, before the splitter box, right after the antenna-still didn't find anything."

But if you're able to get it to work, the digital signal will make watching TV much better. Smith said, "The digital signal is great once you pick it up, because it just gives you a much cleaner picture and better sound."

Here at KIDK 3 we are working to make sure our translators will get a digital signal to as many of you as possible.

And don't forget to tune in on December 16th when we shut off our analog signal so that you can find out if you are ready for the transition.
