"Home for the Holidays" home sale
By Hasti Taghi
"There are a lot of people out there just sitting on the fence and not buying. We wanted to do something to pull them off the border," says Greater Idaho Falls Association of Realtors President, Steve Hatch.
With less than mediocre home sales plaguing the market nationwide, the association came up with an idea to entice you, the home buyer. "It's the biggest home sale in southeast Idaho history," says Hatch. It's called "Home for the Holidays." One week, more than 40 agencies, and price reductions of at least five percent per house. 261 homes total make this sale unprecedented. "This is the kind of time of year when all kinds of people are doing sales. You go to the mall, you go to the stores and we thought, let's have a home sale," says Century 21 Advantage Broker, Steve Taggart. The available homes range in price from just under one hundred thousand to over a million dollars. The savings total over three million. "Buyers have more leverage right now. There are lots of homes for sale and not a lot of buyers," says Taggart. But buying a home is no small investment and investing isn't for everyone. Realtors advise to buy if you're in for the long term, look for a good loan agency and make sure you have the credit to back you up. With prices like these, these Realtors hope home buyers will start shopping. "I hope people put something under the tree that doesn't quite fit, and that's a home," says Taggart. If you're a first time home buyer, the government is also encouraging you to invest by offering $7,500 on your tax return. But you have to by before June 30th.
