District 25 getting community involved in educationBy Wes Horrocks
POCATELLO - Today is the start of American Education Week in Pocatello and Chubbuck, and District 25 administrators are hoping to get the whole community involved.
Every day schools are holding events that will bring parents and other people from the community into the classroom. The theme is "Great public schools, a basic right and our responsibility." Things kicked-off today with Syringa Elementary and Irving Middle School winning a bulletin board contest judged by local business people. Education Week started in 1921, and the district wants to recognize how much effort it takes to ensure schools are providing a quality education. Shelly Allen, District 25 Spokeswoman said, "Education for all children is really important. And [Education Week] is just to make people aware of the public education system, and all of the people who contribute." Parents are invited to many schools Tuesday to spend time with their kisd. On Wednesday there will be a staff recognition day. Thursday is a recognition day for substitute teachers. And Friday is celebrity principal day, where community members will have the chance to shadow a school principal. |
