REXBURG - A man walked into the Madison County Sheriff's office over the weekend and said he was there to turn himself for robbing a bank in Texas.

Detectives say Yngvar Simensen allegedly robbed a bank in Fort Worth, Texas on October 16. He took off and ended up in Rexburg where he spent the last three nights sleeping in his car in BYU-Idaho parking lots.

Simensen played football for Ricks College in 1971. He told detectives that he was planning to rob another bank when he ran out of money.

When detectives asked Simensen why he didn't rob a bank here, he told them, "Because the people in this area are just too nice."

The Madison County Crimes Division, the Idaho Falls FBI, and the Texas Fort Worth FBI Division worked on this case all weekend.

A federal arrest warrant was issued Monday for Simensen. He will held in the Madison County jail until he's transferred to a federal holding facility.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
