ISU Nursing Program on-line
By Justine Beauvais
POCATELLO - With a busy lifestyle it can often be hard to make time to get a degree, but an Idaho State University program is making it much easier.
The Associate Degree Registered Nurse Program at ISU provides on-line courses to students. Vernon Kubiak is one recent graduate who benefited from the program. "The fact that I was able to stay in Arco and not have to commute everyday to the local university was a tremendous opportunity for me," says Kubiak. Living and working in the area made it difficult for Kubiak to take time out to further his education but the ADRN program was a big help. "I was able to do most of it at night after working and with the exception of coming down for the intensive days and going to various hospitals to work to build up skill levels, I was able to complete everything," he says. The program is a distance based delivery method allowing students to take on-line courses and do hands on learning in their local area without the hassle of commuting to class. "The program comes to our place bound people because either the person would not be able to have access to a quality nursing education or they wouldn't come back if they left," says director of the program Dr. Linda Smith. On-line conferences and postings are just a few ways students can communicate with one another and instructors pay close attention to the progress being made. "We measure that all the way through so that when they do graduate we know they are capable and competent nurses," says Smith. Whether or not distance or personal responsibilities is an issue Kubiak thinks the program is great for anyone. "A lot of people think an on-line education is easier and in reality an on-line education is the way of the future," says Kubiak. |
