PRESTON - A Preston City councilman is dead after what investigators are calling a tragic accident.

63-year-old Mike Kunz was cleaning a 9-mm pistol in his computer store at Noon yesterday when it discharged shooting him in the chest.

Kunz was familiar with handling firearms. Val Sparrow, Preston police chief said, "It's a reality check of how frail life is. How quickly things can change. How careful the public needs to be with firearms."

For the last 5 years Kunz served on the city council where he was fighting to get new water meters in preston.

He always wanted to see the city progress. F. Lee Hendrickson, Preston Mayor said, "The city is really going to miss him, but everybody's going to miss him. He's going to be missed in many circles in our community."

Kunz leaves behind a wife, three sons, and a daughter.
