Seniors Collecting Christmas Items For Kids All Over The World

AMMON - A group of seniors at the Life Care Center in Ammon already have Christmas in mind. For the tenth year, residents will be participating in "Operation Christmas Child" a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organization.

The people at Life Care raise money, collect shoe boxes, take donations and put the gift boxes together for those ages 2 to 14.

"Toothbrush, toothpaste, hair supplies, coloring books, crayons, candy. No chocolate, all hard candy. Anything small enough to fit into a shoe box," says Life Care Activity Director, Michelle White.

Two to three times a week, seniors help wrapping and filling the boxes with items that will go to over 100 locations both domestic and overseas.

The generous donations help those in need, but also allows the seniors to do their part in giving back.

"How many of us want to sit and play games all day long? So we look at a lot of different areas for them. It gives them some dignity, respect for themselves and a sense of purpose," says White.

This year, Life Care is asking you for a bit more help. They're trying to double last year's production numbers are are hoping to send out 1,000 boxes.

We can all help by bringing shoe boxes full of items, the shoe boxes them selves or just a few items.

"They're more than welcome to bring it into here and our residents would be thrilled go ahead and wrap the boxes and use those supplies to stuff them," explains White.

If you'd like to do your part in helping, items can be dropped off at the Life Care Center on East 17th Street in Ammon. They'll even cover the cost of shipping for you.

The deadline for dropping off supplies is November 15.
