REXBURG - A Rexburg man is facing indecent exposure charges after being accused of viewing pornography and masturbating in the Madison County Library.

It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon at the Madison Library when workers noticed something wasn't right.

"Two of the staff saw what was going on and immediately called the police," said library director Judy Dewey.

Sitting in the corner, at a computer, was 33-year-old Daniel Young looking at pornographic websites and masturbating.

The library has a strict policy against pornography. Every computer has filters and when patrons log on, they agree to stay away from sexually explicit material.

"The other part of the policy is to not disable any software or change any settings on the computer," said Dewey.

That's most likely how Young accessed the porn - by disabling the filters. It's something other people have done too.

"We do encounter them like every other community. This isn't the first one at the library," said Rexburg Police Capt. Randy Lewis.

Young was removed from the library, cited, and released. He won't be returning any time soon because he's been banned from ever coming back.

"We don't want people accessing pornography in this library," said Dewey.

Young has done this sort of thing before but not to this extent.

The library's policy says if you look up pornographic material, you're banned from computers for a year. If you do it again, you are banned permanently.

This week Gov. Otter signed a bill requiring Idaho to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform. What's your response to this?

  • It's great to see Idaho taking the lead on this. Someone has to stand up to what's happening in Washington.
  • We can't afford to pay for education in Idaho, but we're going to spend tax dollars to sue the feds? Ridiculous.
  • Not sure.
