Summer Accidents a Reminder for Drivers to Be More Cautious
By Hasti Taghi
IDAHO FALLS - A one car rollover on Yellowstone highway near the Budweiser storage facility put one driver in the hospital this morning.
This accident is just one of many that have taken place this summer. We have the story of one accident that leaves us all wanting to drive a little safer. Thursday night Lucie Jensen and her friend were driving in the area of State Highway 39 and 600 South when they were involved in an accident with a Chevy truck. The girls were taken to the hospital where Jensen later died. Her friends say Lucie's death is a reminder for all of us to be a little more cautious. "she was on her way to meet up with us...and we found out they had been in an accident," says Emily Lish, a friend of Jensen. This empty softball field is a stark contrast to the joyful days Lucie Jensen and her friends spent competing for Blackfoot High School. Jensen was part of the JV team. Her team-mates recalled happier days as they looked at old pictures with their friend. "she just loved everyone... She had a big heart," says Heidi Horsely, softball coach. 15 year old Jensen was air-lifted to EIRMC following her accident. She was pronounced dead Friday. As these young drivers mourn their loss... They know there is a lesson that can be learned here. "it's not cool to drive fast and it's not cool to not wear a seat belt," says Horsely. Although the investigation is not complete...we do know that Jensen was not wearing a seat belt. Statistics show that more than 15-thousand lives were saved in one year alone by simply buckling up. "we are not invincible this stuff does happen," says Lish. In Monday's rollover crash... The driver wearing a seat belt suffered minor injuries... reminding us all of how powerful a seat belt can really be. |
