IDAHO FALLS - One of several items up for discussion this afternoon was registered sex offender Brad Stowell being released. Family members of victims have been upset that Stowell did not serve his full time and was released on parole.
When asked if he'd be in favor of minimum sentencing, the governor replied, that he had no problem with minimum sentencing.
Idaho is one of only 7 states that does not have minimum sentencing, but the governor says he's open for discussion on the matter if the right law comes by his desk.
"If the legislature wants to tighten up I don't know if I'm prepared to tell you you I'd sign any legislation that comes down, but I'd certainly be prepared to talk to them about it any probably have a favorable response," said Otter.
He also wanted to remind everyone that our judges are elected and that Idahoans can demonstrate their frustrations over judges and their sentencing.
Another controversial issue has been wolves added back to the endangered species list. The governor called it disappointing after working so hard on the management plan that showed Idaho had a sustainable population and genetic diversity that was required.
"I feel that we just got caught up in the crowed. There was obviously some problems folks had about some of the other states management plan, some of that rubbed off on us," said Otter.
The governor admitted he was not sure what the next step will be, but one of the possibilities is to go before the 9th District Court and appeal the wolf situation should be looked at by each state individually.
