Bike Racks

IDAHO FALLS- With the slumping economy and the cost of gas many people are finding alternative ways to save money.

Bob Davenport: "The gas prices are so high that everyone has to ride their bikes."

If you've noticed bikes tied up against trees or poles it's because it's hard to find bike racks in town.

Don Mendel: "There's not that many bike racks."

But what happens when you get to your destination, where do you park?

Don Mendel: "There's not enough in Idaho Falls. You have to lock up around trees or posts."

Unlike driving into a parking lot were there are designated spots, bikes have alternative parking spots, a bike rack. But locals tell me bike racks are far and few.

Some even make family trips out of bike riding and they bike to church. I went to many churches in the area and saw bikes piled all around because there's no where to park.

Bob Davenport: "Lately we've seen that they're no bike racks in town. So we have to lay them down or up against a building."

Bike racks are normally found on private property so there are no laws for or against them. People I spoke with today said they are concerned with tieing up their bikes because people are swiping them.

Bob Davenport: "We haven't locked them up, but we should because everyone is looking for bikes."

Others say if there is nothing around they will just tie the bike up to itself.

Ted Henscheid: "Lock the bike up from the tire to the frame and hope no one swipes it."

So if you can, tie your bike up to a tree, pole or a sign.
